"Life is life - whether in an animal or man. There is no difference there between an animal or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man's own advantage." - Sri Aurobindo

In the steady gaze of the horse shines the eloquence that speaks of love, loyalty, strength and courage, It is the window that reveals to us how willing his spirit, how generous his heart.

Mission Statement

To preserve the lives of thoroughbred racehorses and racetrack pony horses who can no longer race or work by facilitating and providing for their care and well being during their transition to retirement, sanctuary care and or adoption. Uphold the integrity of racing by encouraging horsemen and the racing industry to give back to these gallant creatures who have given so much to them. Work to put an end to horse slaughter in the United States.

"At the end of his life he should be retired, adopted, or humanely euthanized if no better solution can be found. Anything else makes a mockery of the words which for centuries have been used to describe our game ... Sport of Kings." - John Hettinger, Trustee, New York Racing Association

"There is a responsibility side of it, you have to take care of the ones that don't hit the home runs. You can't turn a blind eye to it. The Thoroughbred industry must hold itself accountable. There is a very dark undercloud to the business, and we cannot pretend it does not exist. A Thoroughbred horse ending up in a "kill chute" in a slaughter house in Texas is unconscionable." - Nadia Sanan, The Thoroughbred Times, October 2002

"...and I whispered to the horse; trust no man in whose eye you don't see yourself as an equal." - Don Vincenzo Giobbe

A THOROUGHBRED'S PLEA

I gave you all I had with every breath and stride
Running as fast and long as I could to abide

Sometimes I disappointed you, I sensed to well
When I ran out of the money or my fragile legs would swell

Around the oval, I can no longer bear or endure
Racing has finally taken its toll and ended my career

I beg you dear owner, please do not send me down an uncertain road
Passing me from cruel hand to cruel hand, left to suffer and all alone

Spare me from the horrendous journey to slaughter and certain death
Instead, I pray you will send me to a safe home and grant my request

Let me roam the pastures and never know hunger, thirst or pain
My life is in your hands my faithful owner, please protect me I proclaim.
